Pradaxa lawsuits alleged that Boehringer Ingelheim failed to warn patients about severe bleeding risks and that no reversal agent existed when the drug was launched. In 2014, the company agreed to pay $650 million to settle approximately 4,000 cases.
Pradaxa was the first new oral anticoagulant approved as an alternative to warfarin. Unlike warfarin, there was initially no way to reverse Pradaxa's effects during a bleeding emergency.
